From the outside this pub is slightly rough-looking and run down, apart from the fantastic golden Gibbs Mew sign still affixed to the front wall. In fact, I had just stopped to take a photo but a passer-by said that it's much nicer inside, to which I replied it looks closed; he said, no, it's definitely open, so in I went.
The door bears the inscription Leake Pit House, repeated on the windows, apparently an alternative or former name. Once through the door, it's apparent that a recent refurbishment has transformed the interior, though it has been sympathetically done. The bar counter is tiled in black, and there's grey paint and wallpaper that hint at a gastro-pub. It was good to see four hand pumps on the bar, with Trent Pale (from Navigation Brewery, though this is not mentioned on the pump clip), Charnwood Vixen from nearby Loughborough, plus Bass and Pedigree. A sign above the bar says the food is "prepared fresh, worth waiting for". I didn't have any food, but the beer was in good condition. Worth a visit - and don't be put off if it doesn't seem to be open!

The Star is a nice looking white painted pub that is in the small village of West Leake.
Once inside the pub had an olde worlde feel to it with a couple of rooms that had tiled floors and pew seats.
The pub was a Bass tied house when i first visited it,i had a decent drink of Bass Springfield Bitter, there was also Bass on the bar.
I am not sure what it is like now after a makeover or what beers it has on the bar.
