Set on the edge of the village opposite a windmill, the Pheasant has been modernised somewhat inside. The single room has slate tiling, giving the place a fairly cold feel, even on a summer's day. Although, there is one corner with a wood burner and carpet that feels a bit more cosy. Mirrors on one wall help to make the pub feel a bit more spacious.
Tables were mostly set out for diners and as we were stood at the bar, we were approached by a waiter who asked if we wanted to eat, but we politely declined. The bar is on the rear wall and offers a constant selection of Vale Brill Gold & Gravitas and Timothy Taylor Landlord. I chose the Gravitas, which was certainly on the hoppy side. A large number of pumpclips are displayed above the bar, but it appears that the ale range does not change these days.
Whilst most people were there for food, there were still a couple of locals at the end of the bar and I believe there were a few more drinkers on the outdoor patio which overlooks the windmill and also affords good views of the surrounding countryside.

Less of the pretension of the nearby Pointer, although more of a curate's egg inasmuch as it tries to straddle the fine line between eatery and local. L-shaped internally with the hint of an extension at some point, the bar occupies the high-ceilinged crook of the 'L' and offered Vale Gold, a house beer brewed by Skinner's ("A Very Pleasant Pheasant Ale") plus one other (forgot to note). Due to the layout, there's little separation between drinkers and diners, and a throng of locals around the bar and their language was quite audible to those eating. Shame, as the location on top of the hill offers superb views of the windmill and nearby surrounds.
