A back street Everards pub although recently sold to Punch so beware. Once a Steaming Billy outlet it was in limbo when I called in. Two pulls in the left side bar but no cask available. It’s a detached Victorian pub standing four square in an area of Victorian terraces. Two bars, the right or front one is sports/ games oriented with pool and darts, the left side is a basic public still retaining its tongue and groove with drinking shelf. It’s not unspoilt victoriana however but unpretentious. As stated the pulls were not in use and the choice on the horseshoe was as predictable as a predictable thing. What happens here next is a worry, Punch could totally bugger the place up removing any charm that’s left.

Decent Steaming Billy outlet with two rooms and seating outside. Six real ales with a 5% ABV available - and drunk. Two stuffed foxes on top of the bar. Would return to this one.

After a lengthy walk from the train station, it was good to see the Steamin Billy dog on the pub sign. We immediately went for the Steamin Billy Tipsy Fisherman, which hit the spot. We also tried a local microbrewery beer, Charnwood Salvation, which was also another good beer. They also had another Steamin Billy beer and two more guests.
The pub consists of two rooms served by a central bar. The left hand side was slightly bigger and was an L shaped room. This side had high table and chairs and further seating around the corner with a tiled fireplace. There was a lobby connecting the two rooms, which was wallpapered depicting landmark London Street names. The slightly smaller right hand side room had various sporting equipment dotted around the walls, old tennis rackets, a pair of skates, boxing clothes etc. The tables this side were made from old cast iron sewing machine stands, with scrubbed pine table tops.
