Strongers . left this review about The Banner
The Banner is a large stand-alone pub a short walk through housing from the main Hindley High Street. As such this isn’t somewhere any out-of-towners, like me, are going to stumble across by chance. This may explain the less than hospitable barman/governor who was watching me like a hawk and certainly didn’t like me looking around. So my exploring was stifled, but I still managed to ascertain that this wide pub is split into three sections with a central bar area with a long counter across the rear wall that faces booths and tables that run under the front windows. The right hand side of the pub was closed, but peering through the door window it looked like a function area. In the left is the pool room which houses a dartboard and two tables, one of which was covered with some plyboard. Televisions located throughout were airing muted Sky Sports whilst some background music played to the handful of Thursday evening punters. There’s stuff going on in the week such as bingo, darts and dominoes night, jam night and karaoke at the weekend.
Standard and premium keg was available from the bar and the two hand pumps were both unused. A small chalk board on the side of the bar lists four burger options, two beef and two chicken. The quarter pounder with chips was priced at £5.75. As previously mentioned, I didn’t get a good vibe of the governor so I decided to order a half, but obviously got a pint. It was so cheap I didn’t see any point in mentioning the ‘mistake’. This isn’t somewhere I’d visit again.
