Situated at the top of a hill in the Twerton area of Bath, the White Horse used to be a pub that majored on cask ales. These days, it's more of a locals' pub where lager is the drink of choice. There are still 4 handpulls on the bar, but just 2 were clipped with Courage Directors & Black Sheep Respire. The landlord was trying to push the Directors and had only pulled it through on the morning of my visit. One of the locals said that there were few beers better than Directors. My experience of Directors has been somewhat different! Ciders on the bar were Thatcher's Gold, Inch's & Blackthorn.

The pub consists of one long and thin room. There is a lounge area at one end, with a large-screen TV (showing horse racing) and a pool table at the other. There is also a dartboard near the front entrance, as well as a games machine and a jukebox. Music was playing at a low volume, but live music appears occasionally.

Dogs are welcome, with canine snacks provided. In fact, the snack selection for humans was one of the most substantial I have ever witnessed in a pub. For outdoor drinking, there is a patio next to the car park at the rear, with some undercover seating. Wifi is provided in the pub.

Unlike ETA's visit, I was made very welcome and whilst this is unlike many of the pubs in and around Bath city centre, it certainly has its merits as a community local.

This former GBG pub has suffered a decline in its fortunes over recent years, but it’s still a decent local. The Victorian house has a single large bar inside, a sunken smoking patio and a large car park where the garden used to be. The steps down from the car park to the patio are crumbling, somewhat symbolic. There is still a pool table, dart board, jukebox and TV showing live sports, but the furniture is battered and the bench seats are grubby. The landlady was rather sour, and the pub wasn’t terribly welcoming. Two ales on, Butcombe Gold and Original, both in very good condition. It’s worth coming in for a pint if passing but I’m not sure how long I’d want to stay.

Quite a busy and popular local, with sports on TV, a pool table, table football and darts. Three beers on hand pumps, which on my visit were Kelham Island Pale Rider, Otter Bitter and Teignworthy Old Moggie. The latter was a new one to me, and it was OK. (Kelham Island Brewery is about one mile from my house, so I don't need to travel to Bath to drink it.) There was also a cider on draught.
