Gives an immediate impression of an 'old school' historic pub, with a floral exterior, a rambling interior and panelled walls covered in aged prints and other memorabilia. Sadly the management seemed a bit 'old school' as well, with various assertions of "the kitchen is closed" (10 minutes before advertised), "no children in the bar", etc. To cap it off, the Rebellion IPA was decidedly vinegar, with the replacement Tribute not far behind and no attempt to take either off sale. Looks like a great pub, isn't, but could be.

Visited last Saturday, very little has changed since the review by Blackthorn below, including the same beer range. My Rebellion was good but not outstanding.
Very food orientated on a Saturday with most tables either occupied by diners or reserved. Remarkably busy considering I got there about 20 mins after opening time

An attractive looking pub apparently dating from 1792, it’s liberally adorned with hanging baskets and situated right next to the entrance of Windsor Park and the start of the Long Walk, it’s certainly in a prime spot and must get plenty of thirst walkers stopping in after they’ve completed the six miles to the Copper Horse and back.

Inside it’s split in to two rooms known as This Bar and That Bar either side of a central bar counter. It’s got a very cosy and traditional ambience with dark wooden flooring that has been worn smooth over the years and a dark red ceiling that included an unusual Coat of Arms mounted on it. All sorts of odds and ends were dotted around including a number of old gig posters for bands including the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix, strings of Union Jack flags all around, rows of empty wine bottles that had been pressed in to use as candle holders and some old black and white photos. A small brick fireplace was off to one side although this looked rather disused, and a chalkboard above the bar outlined a history of the pub. At the rear a number of wine box ends had been fixed to the wall to make something of a feature, and above this were a couple of rows of old books. A small TV was up in one corner showing the tennis which seemed a little out of place perhaps, but the sound was off so this was not too intrusive. Seating was somewhat limited with just two large tables and a small bench, in the left-hand bar anyway, we didn’t investigate the other one. Most punters were either stood, or congregating outside.

Beers on tap were Rebellion IPA, London Pride and Tribute. Ciders meanwhile were Aspall’s Suffolk and Stowford Press. All in all, a great little pub and well worth checking out.
