Brainy Pool left this review about The Red Lion Inn
this is a fairly traditional albeit modernised and blandly painted village pub. A small locals bar to the left with crackling fireplace, larger lounge to the right, dining extension at the back. Four real ales noted on a chalkboard. Typical local favourites Moorhouses and Lancaster plus Taylors Landlord. It was quiet on my visit with the fireplace making the only noise. Villagers need to get out and support their local pubs in areas like this, no doubt they will all be protesting outside when it closes down. There’s nothing else in Mawdesley so what are they all doing on a Saturday afternoon? It’s a comfortable and friendly local with decent ale, and wouldn’t we all love to have one of them…
