Backstreet pub west of Ormskirk town centre in a residential area. There is a large car park to the side and a garden to the rear. The car park was in a bit of a state and didn't give off a good initial impression.
I wasn't expecting any real ale here. However, Doom Bar was available on cask. Despite serving a couple of locals before me despite them walking in behind me, the barmaid was quite friendly. The two customers who were served first were there for a quick game of pool, with a pool table located off to the rear. There are also a couple of dartboards on the left-hand side near the front window. A number of trophies in the front right corner suggests that the pub has several successful sports/games teams.
Music was playing a little too loud. Although, I quite enjoyed the tracks that were being played on the jukebox. What appeared to be the landlord, who had earlier been talking about some guy who had kicked off in the pub earlier in the day, came over to me and asked if I minded the TV being switched on, as it was just behind my head. He asked me who my favourite band was. As I was non-committal, he put some more Blondie on, at a volume much louder than the jukebox. I don't mind a bit of Blondie (don't we all!), but it was far too loud for my liking and meant I exited the pub a little sooner than I otherwise would have.
I found the locals and staff here to be quite friendly. But there was a definite edgy nature to this pub and I wouldn't want to mess with some of the locals.

Hidden down the Halsall Lane exit of the crossroads. Very much a locals pub but friendly. Serves real ales.
