An attractive and traditional looking pub built out of the local Bath stone, it’s somewhat tucked away in a small village only accessible by narrow, hilly lanes but is nonetheless well worth making the effort to track down. There are a number of seating areas outside, although all are paved or gravelled rather than turfed. Glimpses of rolling hills make for a very pleasant backdrop.
Internally it is perhaps a little more contemporary in some ways than might be expected, but is still nonetheless quite traditional and what refurbishment there has been has been carried out in a manner that is still sympathetic to the style of pub. One end of the pub had a parquet wood floor whilst much of the walling was painted a very pale green colour, with some exposed stonework elsewhere. A large stone fireplace had an unusual stone built stove within it rather than the more usual cast iron variety, and there was a pile of logs stacked up next to it ready for the colder weather. A few old black and white pictures of the locale were dotted around the walls, as well as a large and colourful drawing of a cow. It is perhaps a little more food orientated than might be expected for a small village pub, with many of the tables being laid up for diners. A small snug at the top end looked to be a cosy spot with just enough room for one table.
Beers on tap were Otter Bright and Butcombe Original, whilst a third pump appeared unused. Ciders meanwhile were Ashton Press and the very local Honey’s Midford. Overall, a very pleasant pub and well worth checking out.

This used to be a great village pub but then it went the restaurant route and all was lost. Modern and trendy (if IKEA did pubs...) and now sadly devoid of original character.
