A huge pub with lots of different areas, but still basically one room. Quite a few diners dotted about on a Thursday, early evening, but by no means busy. I had a pint of something pretty pedestrian as far as cask is concerned and I can't remember what it was, but it was well kept. I doubt that I'll ever visit this place again, nothing really wrong with it, it's just a bit boring.

revamped and back open. This is still your standard Spoons-a-like barn in a huge seafront building. cheap food and cheap real ale are available. It was Doom Bar, Hobgoblin and some Morecambe theme beer when I visited. cleaner and shinier than when I visited but still a tacky tedious place in my opinion. There is now a 'Popworld' nightclub upstairs.

I can remember coming in here from time to time when I used to work at the betting shop on Skipton Street - I always prefered it to the Crown on the corner. This used to be a Sam Smiths pub, and it did a mean lasagne at lunchtime. The bar area is much bigger than I remember - perhaps they've extended into the next door dining room? I found it an unsympathetic room, and I wasn't terribly impressed by the beer offering either (see photo) and had to go for Cross Bay Zenith for the second pub in a row. The woman behind the bar was pleasant but otherwise I didn't like it here at all. Nothing terrible that I could put my finger on, just a general tackiness; it was lacking the class of the Royal or the ambience of the Palatine, for example. Perhaps just disappointment that it didn't match up to my memories of popping in here after a day at the bookies all those years ago.
