My first visit here for a number of years, as it tends to be overshadowed for beer choice by the likes of the Sun Hotel, the Three Mariners and Merchants 1688 among nearby pubs. It's very much music oriented, with a mixing console sitting unused in the window at the time of my afternoon visit. There were two banks of four hand pumps, with one cider and three or four real ales. Two of the pump clips were hand-written, but as one of them was Holts Two Hoots in very good condition I really didn't mind. The walls are absolutely covered with framed photos of musicians; none of them as far as I could see of anything other than local renown, so it's nice for them to have this much recognition.

this is a really lovely looking Edwardian pub and cosy enough inside too - but it does indeed get very cramped and is a very sweaty place to drink when a band comes on. This is the place for the more interesting live music in Lancaster rather than the wham-bam rock and punk you tend to see in the other pubs. Real ale selection usually fairly average as noted.

I like this pub. Its fairly small with a thin room stretching back. Compact inside, especially if the area for bands is clogged with equipment. The fairly pedestrian choice of 6 real ales is a bit disappointing but I still like it.
