was a quaint old village style pub owned by Mitchells, then sold to Thwaites and given a horrible soul destroying Ikea refurbishment. curiously it has now been sold on again to JW Lees. It’s a bland place to drink, but the main bar is okay and still popular with the locals. Most of the remainder of the pub is for diners. Equal walking distance from the university and town.

Popped in again over Christmas. Five ales on: Lancaster Bomber (below par), Everards Sleigh Bell, GK OSH, York Guzzler (good), and Everards Beacon (x2 pumps!?!). Lancashire pie night advertised for Wednesdays.

I really like the inside of this place, lots of cosy nooks and crannies with plenty of rooms for a private drink away from the hubbub, stuck in an early 80’s fabric timewarp. Mitchells are making an effort here and there are now six ales on the go with some interesting guests – a couple of Titanic, Everards and York beers this week. Condition was good, but the heads on each were daft even by Northern standards and I had to request a top-up each time. The beer used to get quite cold in here during the winter months. Food is available. A tidy community boozer well-worth a visit – the bus from Lancaster stops directly outside.
*Note for Southern visitors - Booths supermarket is over the road, a mecca of fine local bottled ale at cheap prices. Fill your boots there…
