Judging by the exterior this pub doesn't look promising. Therefore it was a surprise to find 5 handpumps dispensing White Monk, Kaleidoscope, Boon Doggle, Landlord and White Witch. Its multi-roomed and a bit cave-like inside and could do with a bit of a refurb but it was friendly enough.

Still just as tatty when I called in last Friday. Only 4 beers on the bar this time with TT Landlord, Bank Top Bad To The Bone and a couple of Phoenix beers. The Phoenix White Monk was a bit better kept than last time I called, but still not good enough to get it back in the GBG. I still like the place, but it's not a destination pub anymore.

Living a bit on it's past reputation at the moment. Decent selection of cask ale including Landlord, a couple from Phoenix, a Bank Top brew and a guest or two. The beer is still OK but its just not up to it's previous standard, despite the same landlord, Mike Huck (Old Hucky in music circles), for years. Pub is slowly getting tattier and the excellent restaurant upstairs is now sadly closed (a real loss). The music still keeps the pub rockin' though. Could do with making a comeback beer wise.
