Been in here a number of times since the original review. There has been a light makeover in the interim but things tick over from one year to the next. Usually two to three Marstons stable beers on the go, usually in or around good nick. Today’s Pedigree was arse-end of the barrel but drinkable (NBSS 2 – I would have had it changed but my train was due to go).

A cavernous pub by the station and is also handy for the nearby Kennet and Avon Canal. This place is aimed mainly at diners and family crowd but also pulls in a decent hand at the ale – I counted six different beers (don’t be deceived by the three pumps you see initially on entering as more are round the side and back – poor management really, should get them all clearly displayed at the front). Beer quality was pretty good. Also ordered some food which was fine (if a little chain-y). The inside has the trappings of an old country inn – rambling layout and big beams, plus some dusty old books. There’s a large sun-trap beer garden out the front, though the main road and view of the train station might not be ideal for most tastes. Staff seemed friendly enough, I’d be happy to pop back again – worth popping in if you’re waiting for a train.

looks nice from the out but very tied inside needs a bit of T L C but Marstons are more bothered about there big superpubs and new spends than to bother with a nice pub like this it a shame but thats hoe it is with them worth a look in and a very good beer garden at the front
