Adjacent to the entrance at the Clarence is an island bar that supports a premium keg range and six hand pumps. During a recent early Wednesday afternoon visit two of these hand pumps were unused and a third was off which left Cross Bay’s the EPA Halo and Simplicity Pale Ale alongside Moorhouse’s Black Cat. This is a gastro pub so there were a few diners sitting in the seating that runs the length of the right-hand wall and in the left rear. A garden is advertised but I did not investigate. There are no televisions, but there was some background music playing. This is the sort of place I would use if my missus is in tow.

An upmarket Gastro pub, where we were welcomed to just pop in for a couple of beers without dining, on our lunchtime visit. The interior was interesting and I did like the layout. The bar area was a central island bar, positioned near the entrance. The pub had a selection of six hand pulled ales, three from their own brewery, Silver Street, brewed at Britannia Mill in Bury and three guests. These were Tiny Rebel Cwtch, Inveralmond Brewery Bard and Rooster's Yankee. We went for the Silver Street Fire Island and the Ruby, both were very good and priced at £3.50 a pint. We took our beers into a small side room off the bar, which had a very impressive Victorian tiled floor. I would call again as the beer choice was good and the service excellent.

As mentioned below, this place is rather geared up for serving food despite having a brewery. On my visit the area to the right of the bar was full of diners but the area at the rear seemed set for people having a drink.
The central bar has six hand pumps which had three from their own Silver Street Brewery, an Eagles Crag beer, Naylor's Autumn Ale and Milk Street Beer Blonde. I went for the Silver Street Fire Island (£3.50) which was in good nick but not cheap. Sadly I hadn't noticed the CAMRA discount which would have made the price quite reasonable.
It's worth a look for the home brewed ales and is GBG 2019 listed.
