Remote pub that is literally steps off the footpath I was walking for the Greater Manchester Ringway.
Packed solid on a Monday lunch with very elegantly attired punters. Wasnt until I got to the bar and was asked "are you with the wake?" that I realised what was going on. Not sure who was daftest - me for not guessing or the barlady for asking an obvious rambler (complete with rucksack) if they had been to a funderal.
Nice beer garden, multi-roomed and very much setup for dining. Although there is a dart board in one of the side rooms, you wonder when it was last used in anger.
The JW Lees Bitter looked perfectly kept. Can't blame the pub for the complete lack of taste.

JW Lees pub in the semi-rural area of Birtle, just to the north east of Bury. More of a foodie pub than a drinkers' pub, it was quiet on my Saturday lunchtime visit.
The interior feels quite dark. But there are quite a few different areas with plenty of space, making social distancing easy to achieve.
The 2 ales were Bitter & MPA. Service was friendly and efficient.
