The Volunteer appears to be the only remaining pub in the Darcy Lever area of Bolton. It has one fairly open-plan room with a pool table and a small covered outdoor patio at the rear.
The two real ales are Holt's Bitter & Bank Top Flat Cap, whilst the landlord was a really friendly chap, keen to engage in conversation. TVs were playing music. A friendly place.
