An odd one, this. An unusual part-wood exterior gives way to what I can only really describe as a Cath Kidston interior - a large multi-roomer trading heavily on cushions, candles, bunting and chintz (I did like the cushions on the bay window settle spelling out EMPEROR in their arrangement, I'll admit - see pic). Nice garden with kids play area. Eclectic live music advertised, with jazz sessions on first Thursdays and Northern Soul on third Thursdays. Three ales; West Berks Chubbs (ok though hazy) Ringwood and Pride plus a boxed cider. The kind of place you can’t dislike without perhaps getting excited by either. Still, it's a well-cared for place and that's worth something.

this pub has now being taken over by a local lanlord and he has turned the pub into a v/nice place to dine and enjoy some spot on ale
