Looks tidy enough from the outside with a decent-sized car park to the right side and double-glazing which is always a bit unusual. The interior had obviously had a bit of recent work done with some wallpaper and black metro tiling on the bar back (poorly finished, I noticed). The layout is open-plan with a large TV (tuned to a music channel on my visit) and a dart board cabinet (presume a board was inside?). Assailed by the local nutter who asked me more questions than the US border agency do - 'good as gold' I was told by the licensee but frankly he was a pub scarecrow. The two other punters were, thankfully, friendly enough. There may have been a rear area but the local oddball scared me off exploring. Bar talk gleaned that the current licensee had only in situ a few weeks with massive restrictions on the pub as the aftermath of the previous incumbent. Four pumps with two GK ales on and the Golden Hen was surprisingly decent. Given the problems this place has and the competition from over the road, it may well end up as a house sooner rather than later. Rated 4
