Ale quality seems to be on the up based on my last couple of visits. Looking good as Theale's best all-round pub right now following the demise of the Red Lion.
October 2011
Clearly the most popular pub in Theale, usually busy, pulls in a lot of the business crowd for lunch. Stocks a number of the Fullers range though quality is a bit middling. Serving average deep-fried and bread-based pub food, this place is family-friendly and has a large garden, log fire and big screen for the footy, so ticks a lot of boxes for the 'regular' drinker.

The Volunteer has an eating gastro style, but only in certain sections, this being a Fullers pub you'll get the usual choice of Fullers beers available. A pretty decent place to go.
