Alan Winfield left this review about The Hillgate
The Hillgate was a fairly large victorian built pub that was set deep into the back strets of Hurst Brook.
I quite liked the look of this pub from the outside,i was'nt dissapointed once inside.
The pub had two seperate rooms there was a decent comfortable bar and a smart lounge,i had a drink in the bar, this room had bench seating and small stools.
The pub had Wilsons signs outside but there were no Wilsons beers on the bar, there were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Joseph Holts bitter which was a really nice drink that went down very well, the other beer was John Smiths bitter which was on handpump.
I quite liked this pub,it is a great shame that it has now closed down.
