A country pub dating back to the early 18th Century, it was once also a village shop and hostel for unmarried farm workers. It consists of a large L-shaped bar with a dining area to the rear, and a smaller public bar at the front. Open fire, carpeted floors and exposed (mainly decorative) beams gave a rustic feel. It's mainly used by locals, and the service is very slow - the barmaid didn't seem to know what she was doing, but she was at least friendly. There were 7 ales on, surprisingly, I had fff's Rat and Warthog which was in first-class condition. Well worth seeking out for a decent pint, but make sure you're not in a hurry.
