Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Red Lion
One of the two surviving Blue Town pubs that once lined much of the street beside the naval dockyard walls. Slightly brighter and more comfortable inside than I was expecting, with some flowers and other decorative features about the partly opened-out U-shaped interior. A few wooden benches can also be found out on the pavement. Another surprise was finding one of the three handpumps in use (although the handles are missing from the other pair. This initially appeared to offer Doom Bar, but the back-to-back clips were quickly flipped round, and I was dispensed a fair pint of Proper Job (£4.00). Overall, much more inviting than I was expecting.

Run down dockside pub, now a freehouse, knocked through to form a single long bar floored with a disturbing stripy carpet. There is a tv showing sports matches, an awful noise from what must be a faulty jukebox, and there is a sense that this pub is trying to be a winebar but doesn't know how to go about it. At the front are some rotten wooden tables, but since the only view is of the dockyard wall, they're only really used by smokers. Three ales on, I had a pint of Mad Cat Brewery's Auburn Copper Ale which was OK but nothing special. I am surprised that this pub has had a GBG entry as the beer quality just doesn't stand up. The pub has been recently redecorated, the staff are friendly enough but I'm not really sure I will make the effort to rush back.
