Plain exterior with a pleasingly traditional interior from the 60s school of plush - wood fittings, carpet, beams, big hearth fireplace, Toby jugs and hanging coppers. Shut the Box spotted. Fabulous 80s soundtrack to accompany a friendly welcome. Three cask over four, sadly my Fuller's London Pride was tasting closer to Harvey's and served in a silly long tall glass - something not quite right despite being ostensibly cellared well (NBSS 2.5). Whilst slightly out of the way it’s worth a look if you're in Sandwich and you've done the two GBGers.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Kings Arms
Venerable hotel on the western side of the compact town centre, with quite a plain exterior but very traditional inside. Very much a food-led establishment, with almost all tables in the bar area and rear room laid up for those dining. However, there are some stools along the counter but I secured a seat near the impressive old fireplace (although the the single log on the disproportionately small hearth wasn't doing much...). Just Harvey's (£4.70) from a pair of handpumps, with a reversed Ghost Ship clip on the other handle.

The Kings Arms is a grade II listed 16th century coaching Inn on the road into Sandwich from Ramsgate and is a little way out from the rest of the pubs in the centre of Sandwich.
Internally it’s a fine traditional decor throughout with a wood beamed carpeted main bar area with a separate dining room behind and the main bar has the liberal use of Kentish hops from the beams and period photos on the walls to give it some character.
This was the nearest pub to our accommodation and we primarily visited to eat here as it is a food led pub and is currently the highest ranked restaurant in Sandwich on trip advisor, something that was fully justified on our experience. It is friendly to people just popping in to have a drink but it is fair to say that on the two occasions we came in everyone in the bar was dining, and to be honest if you are just after a beer I would say there are better wet sales focussed pubs in the middle of town. The exception I would make to that statement would be on a fine weather day when you could utilise the excellent secluded garden at the back of the pub. Laid to lawn it is surrounded by well planted and well maintained flower beds that were a riot of autumn colour and would not have been out of place in the Salutation Hotel Gardens (£8.50 entrance for non hotel guests and highly recommended for anyone with an interest in horticulture) at the end of the quay.
The bar has the usual draft keg options and two ale pumps which had Harvey’s Sussex Best and a badged Kings Arms Hotel Pale Ale which was brewed for it by Laine Brew Co. from The Laines in Brighton. We tried both on our visits and they were well kept.
There is a small car park that seemed to be permanently full with the cars of the staff here, but fortunately there is a large public car park almost opposite the pub.
A difficult one to rate this because it functions more as a restaurant than a pub and I feel slightly harsh giving it a 7 as if your main reason was dining you would certainly be going higher than this.
