E TA left this review about The George
A large brick-built 1930s roadside pub on a busy junction, set in its own grounds with a decent amount of parking. The single large bar is carpeted and furnished with the usual mass-produced chairs and tables. There are tv screens, gaming machines and a jukebox, and there is free wifi. Regular live music acts are advertised, and on this occasion the band was competing with the jukebox for airtime. Sports events are screened and used as opportunities for social evenings. There is a strong community spirit, yet strangers are welcomed. There were 2 ales on, Doombar and Courage Best, both badly kept and in poor condition. It's probably OK to drop in when passing for a snack and a quick pint, or even to watch the odd match, but the beer quality suggests I won't be making the effort again soon as it's a fair way out of the City centre.
