On edge of Romney Marsh, this is a slightly old-fashioned pub-grub establishment which was probably at its busiest when I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. Partly opened-out to leave a three-part bar and dining area, all simply furnished and plainly decorated. All four handpumps were in use, offering Doom Bar (£3.90), Ghost Ship and a couple of ciders (Old Rosie and Rosie's Pig).

I'd heard about this place but having looked at it on the map decided it was pointless trying to find it. Then when out walking and aiming to visit the Prince of Wales I found myself, after a long walk, right at the other end of Burmarsh Road (sorry Dad, you were right!) and happened across this place. It provided a welcome bolt hole and an even more welcome pint of Hobgoblin. Doombar and GK IPA were also on. Nice looking pub with log fires, horse brasses and old decor. Rams and Ewes on the toilet doors reflect the area it's in, a river runs along the front and there are nice views of fields all around. It really is in the middle of nowhere being at a crossroads with rather confusing sign posts. The bar staff couldn't help much when it came to directions, other than to suggest we went back the way we'd just come, but thankfully I have a mate who knows the aea so I phoned him and he directed us back to civilisation. Interesting pub sign that makes me think the origin of the name is worth researching.

Excellent beer (Cornwall's Sharp Brewery Doom bar) and scrumpy. Not particularly a pub for boozing, the emphasis is definitely on the food. Excellent food though. Extensive menu, with ever-changing specials board. Excellent Sunday roast, and superb fish n chips. Service isn't fast, but a sign of freshly made food. Quality wins over fast-food.
The staff are consistently friendly and accommodating, and whilst it isn't our local pub, we end up there time and time again in preference to any of the pubs on the coast around Dymchurch. Nice small beer garden with extensive views over Romney Marsh, with facilities for leaving bikes secured.
