Quality seems to be variable on the ale front these days and with the local competition upping their game, it isn't the default visit in Theale it once was. But it could be again!
November 2012
Old coaching stop-off on the Bath Road. Large interior has a fairly modern feel to it after large refurbishment (much needed). Usually three ales on: West Berks GOB is a regular, White Horse, Bombardier and Tim Taylor also crop up regularly. Quality of the WB GOB is usually excellent, the other two can be a little more variable – the GOB is clearly the big seller here.
July 2009
The new people in charge are making a real effort in here. It's been spruced up, the big garden at the rear is now more easily accessible. There's three beers - currently GK IPA plus a couple of guests, usually from a local brewery like Loddon or West Berks - which have tasted good so far. Food is now also being rolled out. positive signs initially, am hopeful that they're in for the long haul and can make this place a success. Worthy of a detour for a beer at present.
October 2008
Serves a very good pint of West Berks Good Old Boy, so worth a stop for that. he inside is a stuck in the pre-smoking ban era, could do with a spruce up. Usually has some newspapers available, as well as SKY so a good place to watch the footie or just drop in for a pint. Clientele can vary considerably, some of them have Tourettes judging by their potty-mouthed howling and are best avoided. Shame, as they let the place down occasionally.

This pub has a locals feel to it, the place was an enjoyable start to a crawl in Theale. At least 2 real ales on including The White Horse beer, a relaxing place to go in the afternoon.
