Attractive 16th century pub well off the beaten track in the middle of Perry Wood so ideal for those walking but not the sort of place you would ever drive past by chance. The age of the building is demonstrated by the low ceilings and the interior has just the sort of traditional look that you would expect. However, in decent weather, the rear beer garden is definitely the place to be, with careful planting creating a number of smaller secluded areas (and in one corner, there are bines climbing two old-style hop poles rather than the stringing now used commercially). Being shortly after post-lockdown reopening, the only real ale from the four handpumps was Harvey's (£4.60) but thankfully that was in fine form.

Situated on top of Crown Hill in Selling and set against 150 acres of natural woodland, this delightful Free house offers everything a traditional country pub should:-
a warm welcome, great choice of real ales, food that is both unusual and traditional, log fires in the winter and probably the best pub garden in Kent.
