Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Louis Armstrong
Renowned music and ale pub, albeit with restricted opening times (so this was my first visit after a number of attempts). Partly opened out to leave a L-shaped layout downstairs, with the main entrance leading to the traditional bar on the left-hand side and more (canteen-style) stretching back to reach the small stage off to the right. That said, it was very cold inside just after the 15:00 opening time on a Friday (and I didn't find the welcome much warmer either...). Beer-wise, I found She Sells Sea Shells from Gadds and Canterbury Ales' Ruby Simcoe (£4.00) being served from two of the four handpumps. Perhaps I just caught it on a bad day, but disappointing.

I see prints of jazz greats, and tiles of green
The former name – Grapes – in the brickwork can be seen,
And I think to myself, what a wonderful pub.
I hear drinkers sigh, watch them sup,
in the one knocked-through bar when the live jazz is up.
And I think to myself, it's an Edwardian pub.
The ales in the hand pumps
from Gadds and Hopdeamon,
IPA and Skrimshanker, and Seven.
I see Wednesday nights,
Ale is cheap:
Not just for CAMRA but also normal peeps
I see friendly staff, welcome cheer,
I have no doubt I'll come back here.
And I think to myself.
It's a GBG pub,
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful Pub.
