After a period as an Oriental restaurant, a 'Salsa Bar' and a strange Polish bar-cum pizza restaurant, this is now called Mirage. Still Polish with a fridge stocking a myriad of Polish lagers that, frankly, all tasted the same to me. Outside decking is popular on sunny days. No real ale. Polish cuisine served and looked pretty good. Formerly the Alfreds Head.

I lived down the Oxford Road in digs for a year back in 2001 whilst I was working in the area and I visited this place once. I never returned as during my hour stay I beat a local thug at pool and he threatened to wrap his queue around my head. This was after I tried to have a dump in the toilet and had to open the door to give someone toilet tissue to stop his nose bleeding after it encountered some toxic substance and after witnessing the local crack vagrant throwing up into the urinal – It was a classy place!
