A good traditional half-timbered pub past West station with beamed ceiling and old-style decorations. A room at the back houses bar billiards and there is a small patio at the rear. 5 handpumps on the bar serving mainly local ales from the likes of Gadd and Hopdaemon plus a cider. A proper pub.

Locals pub, just outside the West Gate and City Walls.

No sign of local Kentish beers as suggested by other resources - two handpulls, one was Harvey's Sussex Best. A favourite brew but bang average here.

A very pleasant surprise after a day of awful lounge-type bars, this is what a pub should be like. An O-shaped bar with a central servery, carpeted, with exposed timbers and a welcoming fireplace. There is a TV screen, which was switched off, a piano which was thankfully covered over, and more interestingly a bar billiard table. There is a pleasant, well-kept garden at the back. Food is pub standards, well cooked and well-priced. Ales on were Hopdaemon Session Ale, Mighty Oak’s Little Cracker, Butcombe’s Christmoose and Masterbrew. All the beers were in excellent condition. Staff were helpful and cheery, and we were sorry when the time came to leave. I shall certainly be back next time I’m in Canterbury, and I would definitely include in a crawl. Why can’t all of Enterprise’s pubs be this good?
