This is essentially a three-room pub, as the very large bar at the front is able to be separated in two by closing the concertina doors in the middle. There's a third small room at the back on the right containing a pool table. On the right hand side of the main room is a raised balustraded area where there's a dartboard on the wall. Furnishings are entirely normal tables and chairs, and some small round stools, plus tall stools at the bar of course. It's carpeted, but there's little in the way of decor apart from a rather nice Charrington brewery mirror above the fireplace although at this time of year there are Christmas decorations all over the place. A sign near the pool table announced that pool was free on Monday evening, and music was provided by some radio station being broadcast over the pub.
There are two handpumps in the right hand side of the main bar clipped for Hobgoblin and Bombardier (£1.70 a half - drinkable but not good), and three more in the left hand side clipped for Doom Bar, Courage Best with a third having a reversed clip. There was no sign of food on Monday morning.
This looks like a post war, or possibly late inter-war, locals' pub. It was doing a good trade when I was in, and I'm glad it's here for the locals to enjoy. But it's not one to which I'm likely to return.
