Although the building looks to have some age, the interior has been modernised and opened out into one room although there are a couple of corners at either end of the bar tucked away.Piped music and fruit machines set the standard of what to expect from this pub, food on offer was from the burger menu. Four handpumps the only choice of cask beer was Doom Bar or London Pride, the keg selection was mostly of the normal stuff with a slight nod toward craft with a couple of Camden beers. Not my kind of place.

A sign on the exterior claims that it is a historic inn, which may be true, but the interior now is not very historic. It's been completely opened up of course, and there's now exposed brickwork that was never meant to be exposed, there's distressed wood around the place, and sprigs of flowers in bottles on all the tables. I thought they were orchids, but Mrs R informed me that they were something cheaper. But I don't mind sprigs of flowers on tables; personally I can take them or leave them.

There were a couple of the inevitable tall tables and tall stools, but furnishings were mainly chunky tables with fixed bench seating and normal chairs. It was all fairly comfortable in fact, although there was nothing of heritage interest, with the possible exception of a bit of wood panelling.

On to the important stuff. There were four ales on - Doom Bar, London Pride, Timothy Taylor Landlord, and Butcombe Plough On. I went for the latter of course, which was a cracking pint at a very reasonable £3.30 after the 50p a pint CAMRA discount was applied. As I ordered, the lady behind the bar actually asked me if I had a CAMRA card; I must look the type who would have one. There were pub grub menus on the tables, including a weekday lunch deal for £5 a meal, including such things as scampi & chips, or sausage & mash.

In fact, it was a comfortable pub with reasonably priced decent ale and food, so certainly worth a visit if you find yourself in Beckenham.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The George Inn

Attractive old weatherboarded inn on the High Street, with a porticoed entrance and an opened-out interior that still retains a good amount of character. Traditional furniture and decor throughout the staple-shaped bar and further seating / dining areas. Compact, split-level patio beer garden to one side. Friendly service. Six handpumps on the counter, with Greene King IPA, Doom Bar, Hooky, Adnams White Lies, Exmoor Gold and Top of the Hops from the Great Yorkshire Brewery (£3.50). Overall, sat inside here, you could imagine that Beckenham was still a Kentish village...
