An old attractive coaching inn on the market square, half in white render, half in stone slabs with all woodwork painted dark green. Internally it’s a collection of different areas that radiate off the main serving area that is actually in two halves either side of a short central archway. Each section houses two hand pumps but the two in the front section as you enter are badged with the not very inspiring Doombar and TT Landlord and you could easily miss that there are (well for my visit at least) more interesting options on the back section. For my visit these were the local Fuggle De Dum from Goddards and Seadog from Yates, the latter being in fine form. The collection of beermats on the walls of the rear bar section were initially quite impressive, until you realise that it is actually wallpaper. But at least it does show a focus on ale rather than food in this section at least. And although there is the brighter more modern area to the left specifically aligned to dining there were plenty of areas just for a beer and I particularly liked the wooden floored, wood panelled area that housed the toilets that retained a lot of character.
