Apparently reopened in late 2025 after being closed for several years, we quite liked this one as it was a proper pub in the evenings as it only does food between 12 and 5.00PM. So in the evenings it was wet sales only and tended to be void of families but mainly locals and tourists out for an evening drink. Internally, one central bar room with areas either side and then a separate area to the left and then a fine external terrace overlooking the Chine.
There are four ale handpumps on the bar but only one was in operation for our visit with a bitter from the Island Yates brewery. However, the other three unclipped pumps actually had bottles of ale from the Island Goddard Brewery in front of them, including their South Island Pale Ale, so we were alright of the evening.
The pub puts on a program of music nights on a Friday and Saturday and we were here to attend one of these, and it was great to find the pub packed with people out for a good time.

Possibly the Isle’s most iconic pub, built in 1621 and located in a perfect elevated position overlooking part of Shanklin chine and also affording a sea view, as well as having a characterful olde worlde interior. The inside is a flagstone floored, wood heavy multi-roomer with loads of character. Four ales on; Doom Bar, Bass, Yates Golden were on handpull with TT Landlord coming direct from the barrel. Unfortunately my Yates was below-par which was a shame. But it’s well-worth a look-in.

Nice pub and restaurant at the top of some steps from the beach/Chine. There is a light and airy extension to the side and lots of stone etc. Local ales, some direct from the barrel.
