Peter Forster left this review about Black Sheep Bar
A modern fizz only bar and eatery in a prime position on Union Street. This used to be called Yelf’s Tap. It was divided into two with a front bar overlooking the street and a larger long main bar behind. At some stage in the 1970s or early 80s the front bar became an off-licence and the back bar was renovated. It has now all been knocked into one and renovated again. Beneath the tap is a cellar bar which was one of the places to go in Ryde during the 80s and 90s. It only seems to be open for events these days. More recently a first floor enclosed bridge has been built connecting this building to Yelf’s Hotel across the pedestrianised road/outside drinking area. Enough of the history. The Black Sheep is long and thin with seating to the front and more comfortable Chesterfield sofas in the rear area. There are no real ales. I had Neck Oil instead at £6.20 a pint. There is piped music as seems to be the norm everywhere. Staff were polite but not particularly welcoming or chatty. I will probably come back one day to sample the food or just for nostalgic reasons.

A modern bar, albeit with a traditional counter which doesn't feel quite right, and a large outdoor area under awnings in the former roadway outside. No real ale: Beavertown Neck Oil, Guinness and a couple of fruit ciders join the usual Eurofizz on keg.

Mmmm? owned by Yelfs as an offshoot late bar from the hotel bar that closes at 11pm, even to residents? not bad but not much atmosphere to be honest
