After a period of closure, this has had a good going-over, a brightening-up internally and an external facelift. Three ales on, 2x West Berks and Bonds Bengal – beer quality was fair-to-good. An improvement.

December 2013
Almost drove past this one as it looked closed from the outside and not immediately inviting. Nicer inside than I expected (the mustard yellow walls excepted). Three pumps, Fullers West Berks GOB and one unused. My GOB was in good shape and reasonably priced. A chap who we unkindly christened Hermann Munster did the serving and my guilt about the moniker was doubled when he graciously returned my wallet that I had managed to leave at the bar. Pretty quiet, just a young couple canoodling who seemed irritated at no longer having the entire pub to themselves when we sat down. Items of note included giant Connect 4 and a pool table. Smallish rear smoking garden. Food offered and it looks like the kind of place that specialises in large parties. As a drinking establishment it’s not exactly a destination venue but does a fair job. They should make the outside a bit nicer though. Rated 5.5

what a lovely place for a quick pint after work to a full on 3-course meal. I love this pub, always welcoming and happy to help. My family and I always chose this location for a birthday dinner...
