Good Beer Guide 2020 Entry.

Old building, with low ceilings - made to feel even lower by the fact the building is lower than the road.

Inside, there's a mixture of wooden tables setup for casual dining and leather chesterfield arm chairs.

Full range of the Fullers Range and the ESB was drinking well and served in the ceremonial chalice.

Good, traditional pub.

An interesting old whitewashed building with black timbers which feels very traditional inside with lots of wood and exposed brick and a 1970's carpet to the right as you enter.
It very much has the feel of a friendly local and I'd guess it would be impossible to get to a seat with a pint without engaging in some friendly banter with the bar staff and locals. It is unusually friendly for this part of the world and attracts a mixed clientele with some chatting at the bar, the odd diner, some playing chess or poring over newspapers and many just quaffing and yarning.
There's a fairly standard menu although every night has a different theme and there is something of an emphasis on seafood. The specials board prices ranged from around £6 to £10 for mains.
The beer was predominantly Fullers with ESB, Chiswick, Seafarers and Bengal Lancer on in addition to Brains SA Gold as a guest. The Bengal Lancer was excellent and most people seemed to be indulging in the ale.
With all those benefits and an eclectic 1980's play list which included the J Geils band, this would be my first port of call in Tring.

This Fullers tied house is in an old building with an interesting interior,low ceilings,exposed wooden beams and posts,several sections at different levels and a conservatory tacked on to the side.It's all very traditional and there was a friendly welcome behind the bar,while on either flank there are bar stools where the equally friendly locals gather,it's easy to get chatting.Dog friendly to boot.
Food is a feature here with themed nights,our Thursday trip coincided with Speciality Sausage night but sensibly food doesn't dominate,no tables are set with cutlery ,it's simply brought to where ever you pitch down.Infact most punters were just drinking and the low volume muzak was thankfully playing 80's classics,no R&B tosh.There was a good mix of clientele from early 20's to OAP's,all women groups to CAMRA boozers.
Five handpumps are dedicated to Fullers ales and my Bengal Lancer (£3.50) was in top form as befits a GBG regular.The sole guest was the insipid Brains SA Gold which wasn't attracting interest,the regulars seemed more committed to the ESB.
A convivial local atmosphere with well kept ale sometimes featuring Fullers seasonals,this is now my top pick in this upmarket town.
