A good-looking building half way out of town, this pub is as smart inside as out, with wooden floor and tiles around the bar, which has an unusual design of blue panels set into a light wood structure. There's a log fire, which was very welcome at this time of year. The three hand pumps had just two beers: Sharps Doom Bar and local Tring Side Pocket. This was my third Side Pocket in the space of an hour, and neither the Bell nor the Black Horse came close to the standard set by the Anchor, though it was in good enough condition.
