. Wittenden left this review about The Chequers
A nineteenth century white rendered building, The Chequers was the subject of a buy-out by residents to prevent closure a few years back. Now, self-identified as a gastro-pub, the ground floor of the original building is a light and airy bar, with dining rooms in a conservatory style extension to the rear.
On our visit on a late Saturday lunchtime in October, the bar was comfortably busy with drinkers, while a number of diners enjoyed their meals.
The barmaids were efficient and jolly, our fish 'n' chips fine, and I relished my glass of Lacon's Union seasonal APA.Doom Bar and Milton's Justinian were also available, together with the usual industrial offerings.
