Steve of N21 left this review about Chequers Pub
The Chequers is a white fronted 15th Century Coaching Inn at the bottom of Royston High Street.
Traditional looking from the outside, internally it has succumbed to a modernistic wine bar type makeover. Wooden flooring, lounge seating and a large white curving central bar supporting a range of chrome fizz taps and an almost apologetic lonely GK IPA hand pump.
My visit was during a Saturday evening, when the loud ‘background’ music and bright lighting, with a strange penchant for purple, wasn’t to my taste, so didn’t stay long.
But the youth of Royston seemed to like it though.
