Steve of N21 left this review about The Cock Inn

One of four remaining pubs in the small Hertfordshire village of Sarratt which like the others, has a focus on food to pull the punters in. Although this one is probably less restaurant like than some of the others.
Externally it’s a picture postcard pub located slightly outside the village in a quiet location opposite Holy Cross Church and close to the scenic Chess Valley. According to local legend, the original settlement of Sarratt was in this area before moving about half a mile down the road to its current position to escape the plague brought in on the river Chess, and there is said to be a secret tunnel running between the pub and the church
Internally the pub has been greatly extended over the years with an old barn next door was converted into a restaurant with low beams and doorways. You enter into the main bar area arranged around the central square bar serving area and then the dining room is off to the right at a lower level and through a low door, (hence the Duck or Grouse sign over the connecting passageway).
There is a sunny patio out front with a view of the church, and a large garden with picnic seating and a playground at the back of the pub.
It is a Hall & Woodhouse tied house and Badger First Gold, K&B Sussex Bitter, Tanglefoot and Firkin Fox were on the pumps at the front of the bar. The First Gold was very good but unfortunately the Firkin Fox was on the turn.
