Bucking Fastard left this review about The Goat
Parts of this pub are 400 years old ,and it's situated opposite the village green. The side door opens into one side of the bar,but getting to the handpumps means going along under a very low heavily beamed area and then under an even lower arch ,I almost had to limbo.
That end of the bar has a piano and then further back a rear snug with full book cases ,looking like a mini library.Everywhere the furniture is household chairs in fabric coverings, all chintzy and like being in someones front room.To the otherside of the entrance are some dining type tables before a dog leg to the laid for service dining area in an extension before the kitchen .The furniture here is also not too robust, homely .Food is important here but it's pub grub rather than gastro and prices are reasonable ,sandwiches £7-8,mains around £15,Sunday roasts etc.My sausage and mash was passable, but not memorable.
The pub seems to have a tie with Greene King as the four handpumps were drawing their IPA,unbranded Rock On and Fireside (both produced at GK mega brewery in Bury St Edmunds) and a single guest in St Austell Tribute ,a bit tired NBSS 2.The commercial radio was a rather annoying ,music OK but when an advert for Co Op Funeral Services came on ,a table full of old dears seemed more reflective than when I arrived.
The welcome was friendly and it's family owned, good to see the local community use it but the overall package could be better, especially on the ale front.
