The very definition of a gastro pub,it's an upmarket place with some very upmarket cars parked outside.
The building is clearly old,with low ceilings and some beams to contend with in a nesting of rooms.It's been tastefully decorated,and there are wicker chairs to the front and down one side for use in good weather.You enter into a lobby beyond which is the bar,and around here is a nominal drinking area with a series of copper topped brittania tables,a real fireplace to the left and some comfy chairs.Throughout the rest of the interior all tables are set for dining,although the nooks and crannies break up the quite large interior.
At the bar there are two handpumps serving on my trip ubiquitous Doom Bar and a decent Adnams Ghostship.There is table service for diners,and some dish prices are reasonable given the surroundings.Daily specials feature a lot of fish,the cooking is restaurant quality and I didn't mind forking out over £15 for a main.Lunchtime meal deals are available.
Not really a place to head to for a session,most customers are dining but with good quality food I can see another visit being on the cards.
