Another Berko High Street pub, this one has some original features well disguised behind a modern refurb, although it certainly retains a laddish boozer vibe. There is an L shaped bar wrapping around to the left ,while to the right in a bay window is a small front snug,a calm place to sup.Room for vertical drinking around the bar, high tables elsewhere apart from sofas below the large sports flatscreen with the Scotland footie team playing on mute.
The wallpaper in black and white has some quirky designs and the muzak was really quite wierd.Acousitic nights on Sundays are advertised. At the rear are french doors to a square room full of student types either having a meeting or group therapy.Near the flatscreen is a good looking fireplace ,and there is a corridor behind the bar leading from the lavs back to the front snug and door.
The landlady was friendly enough and offered three real ales,Youngs Original,Wadworth 6X and Tring Brock Bitter (NBSS 3,but a dull brew).
Popular with mainly blokes,a rather dull range of real ale would temper any enthusiasm for a return visit, but it's not the worst pub in Berko.

It's a little more 'pubby' but there is not much difference from my last review. Three handpumps Pride Doombar and local Tring Sidepocket (that is OK)

The George has all the hallmarks of a pub that has tried to turn itself into a trendy bar and failed. Consequently it's now a pretty poor bar with, I suspect, all the characters and faults that made it fail as a pub. Not exactly dying on it's arse but I reckon it's fairly close. So much more could be made of the property with a little investment but I fear the only thing that would be viable would be a restaurant.
