The Royal Oak has re-opened and has been completely re-furbished.
The greeting was warm and friendly, and the meal was very good indeed.
As to the beer, Doombar, Bombardier and Thwaites Supreme - Not very inspiring, but kept reasonably well. Apparently, the ales are changed on a regular basis, so there could be anything on the pumps.
My rating 7/10, and will return.

Old pub with parts looking their age, especially at the rear. The interior is clean and tidy with about half set up for diners. Pool table, dart board and juke box. Doom Bar and London Pride available at £3.20. Extensive beer garden with around two dozen tables in both both decking and grassed areas. BBQ area and a kids playground with slides and climbing equipment.
