10 mins away from the town centre, this is large, modern, soulless and (when I went mid Saturday afternoon) empty pub. Otter Bitter and Wye Valley on the pumps. Unfortunately my chariot was ready to whisk me away so I can’t report on whether the beer may have been a saving grace for an otherwise grim-feeling place.

Situated on a fork junction about 10 minutes walk from the town centre, this quite spacious restaurant pub came across as a bit of a poor man’s Ember Inn.

The pub has been undergone an extensive modern refurbishment leaving a contemporary interior that has little in the way of eye catching features. One side of the pub seemed geared to dining although it was actually laid out for the following morning’s breakfasts so I don’t suppose they were expecting too many on the dining front which is just as well since the semi-live (singer, guitar + backing tracks) hard rock music entertainment that greeted me on my arrival wouldn’t exactly have made any dining experience worthwhile.

Most of the customers were gathered around the bar area with a handful watching the music and a few brave souls on the front patio either having a fag or escaping the music.
What initially appeared to be a potentially reasonable ale selection turned out to be just 1 (Hobgoblin at £3.00) with 4 others off (Greene King IPA, Wye HPA, Doom Bar and Brains Rev James). The traditional pub grub food was relatively cheap with main meals between £4 and £8 and a separate steak menu £11-£16.

Overall I found it an inoffensive but dull and faceless place that is fine to stop off if passing but is probably worth noting more for its cheap all you can eat breakfasts than its beer although the potential is there to improve.
