This is the Good Beer Guide pub in Ross. It is a nicely appointed hotel with at least 3 rooms that I could spy off a central entrance corridor. To the left is the library, effectively a lounge bar. To the right is the King's Bar which is down a couple of steps as the hotel is on a slight incline. Finally, at the far end is a dining room which I did not get to explore.

The King's Bar has wood panelled walls, a beamed ceiling and bare floorboards. A large fireplace on the right-hand side had board games to the side of it. Background music was playing.

At the bar, Wye Valley Butty Bach is a regular ale. They also had a new beer from Wye Valley called Target and a couple of beers from the Corn Ales Brewery which can be found to the rear of the hotel in some kind of events space called the Corn Exchange. These beers were their Helles & Merchant Bitter. Various events, such as music, comedy nights and a New Year's Eve Party were being promoted at the Corn Exchange.

On the craft beer front, there was Bristol Beer Factory Cellar Head, Wye Valley Nightjar & SALT Huckaback & Jute. The keg cider was Weston's Vintage. Various other items were being advertised around the room, including cocktails, mulled wine, a gin of the week, bar snacks and mixed nuts.

I don't think there was anybody in the Library, but there were 4 other customers (3 women drinking coffee and a man with a hat working on his laptop!), whilst the dining room did sound a bit busier with bar staff spending most of their time on that side of the bar. There were enough people to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Incidentally, Truffles Delicatessen is diagonally opposite. As well as some fairly tempting meats and cheeses, they do sell a decent bottled beer and cider selection for take-away. They are no relation to the pub/hotel.

A rather nice, upmarket place with a relaxed feel. Three rooms in total, the one we plumped for was clad in heavy duty wood panelling, with dim sodium-style lighting which gave it the feel of a gentleman’s club, so quite a bit of character. Three ales, 2x Wye Valley – HPA, Butty (fair) and Purity Gold (good). I liked it here and would happily do it again, especially as it’s so close to the Man of Ross. This does seem to be the better end of town for decent pubs.

This is a terraced hotel and restaurant, with a public bar. It is the architypal symmeterical Georgian build, being in white, with black paintwork. It has two upper storeys of five sash windows, four on the ground, two either side of the neo-classic entrance. Ionian pilasters and keystones make up the decoration. Entrance is via a corridor that has a quiet room off to the left and a restaurant room at the back. The bar is to the right and in heavy oak panel, a white and weathered beam ceiling and a wood floor. There is a tiled fireplace with a burner fire. There are a few mirrors, prints and indentures and things on the walls, as well as mix of seating; settles, bench, stools and wood chairs. The TV had the news on, silently, destroying a little of the ambience - the music was general and at a decent level. The service was fine and a few locals were in, along with the odd guest. Beer; usual tap stuff with Peroni. On handpull there were Doombar and Wye Valley Butty Bach and Bitter - both were decent. A really nice little place and one i would definitely return to.
