Re-opened by Arkells who look to have spent a fair wedge here and a nice job they’ve made of it too. Internally is a single room but divided up into specific seating areas. Cream and olive décor shades, attractive herringbone flooring, and – being Lambourn – the inevitable jockey ephemera. 6 Nations Rugby showing on the telly. Two ales at the bar, Arkells 3B and Wilts Gold, both a bit warm and under-par, served by a friendly barmaid who was caught faking an Irish accent. An odd one was the bogs that had been cleaned with a cloth that looked to have been soaked in a deep-fat fryer; perhaps the jockeys use it for Brylcreem. So all quite tasteful but given its Lamborn, for how long?

Closed for refurbishment Sept 2014. Now open after 150k investment by Arkells. Given the nearby competition, this place should clean up...
