Glad to say this has reopened as it was the only pub in Hay that I hadn't visited. Managed to pop in at long last. Only one ale when I called - Rev James which was fine.

Visited 13/07/24.

Didn't initially have plans for this one as it was showing closed on here and so not on my radar. Through the front door the pub is a reasonably long rectangle away from the front door with the bar on left hand wall. Stools at the bar, some interesting ledge type seating opposite the bar plus a big table in the front right hand side window plus some seating at the far end of the rectangle by the TV, which was showing the rugby. The venue was the busiest of my short late afternoon session. There was another small room behind the bar that also served this back bar, but this room was deserted and pretty depressing. Another room out the back with a pool table, also unoccupied.

Three cask choices, namely the Thunder Bird from Glamorgan Brewing Company, which was my choice and in good nick, plus the HPA & Butty Bach double header from Wye Valley. Keg was Amstel, Cruz, Neck, JS, Guinness, Moretti, Inch’s, plus the standard and a flavoured cider from Strongbow.

Have to admit i was expecting a cosier and classier venue from the stone frontage and stumpy building between two higher ones either side. Checking out past reviews on here whilst in the venue that it was closed for a while for flouting CV Regs, i would have expected less and would have gone elsewhere for my last pub of the afternoon. Saying that the cask was in good nick and it was the only venue that had live sport (not everyone's go to for an extra rating mark i know) so it serves a purpose.

PS Not added as a venue on here as no draught beer, but i paid a visit to the Hay Distillery on Brook St. Nice venue obviously largely selling their own gins, but had some decent bottled ales, pilsners and especially ciders. Well worth a visit if you fancy something a bit different!

According to some locals the license was lost due to breaking lockdown rules during Covid. They didn't seem too hopeful for it's future!
